Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Valley Presbyterian Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides high quality care and treatment to critically ill children in our community. With 10 beds, our PICU is one of the largest in the San Fernando Valley area.

Upon admission, your child will be in the care of a dedicated pediatric intensivist, part of a multidisciplinary team of pediatric specialists dedicated to your child's diagnosis and treatment. Our staff includes pediatric critical-care nurses who have received additional training and certification in caring for seriously ill or injured children. Other key members of our patient-care team are our child-life specialists, trained professionals who help your child and your family to overcome the challenges of serious medical conditions and treatments.

We employ a family-centered treatment philosophy, which recognizes the vital importance of caregiver involvement in the treatment and ongoing care of a young patient. Your intensivist and other members of the health care team will inform you of your child's treatment and condition. They will also coordinate care with your primary care physician to ensure ongoing care after discharge from the hospital.

When your child's condition improves, he or she may be transferred to our modern, comfortable Pediatric Medical Center (PMC), which is designed to encourage family interaction and comfort through the treatment and recovery process.

Please note that Valley Presbyterian Hospital is complying with the California Department of Public Health’s Order requiring that all visitors wear a hospital issued face-covering while in the hospital. Please see the Children's Units - Pediatrics (PEDS) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) section on our Visiting Hours page for additional information about visitor hours, number of visitors and other requirements while visiting these units.
