DAISY Award Program

The DAISY Award is an international program designed to recognize nurses who go above and beyond to provide compassionate care. Valley Presbyterian Hospital is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner.

What Is the DAISY Foundation?

The DAISY Foundation was created by the Barnes family in 1999 to honor the memory of Patrick Barnes. DAISY, which stands for "Diseases Attacking the Immune System," was developed as a way to thank nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. The Barnes family was truly moved by the level of care and compassion shown toward Patrick and the entire family by the nursing staff.

Why Nominate a Nurse?

A DAISY Award is an excellent way to express gratitude for a nurse's attentive care, compassion and clinical excellence. Nominating a nurse simply says "thank you." This award honors nursing excellence, while spotlighting the deserving nurses, and boosts the entire nursing team's morale.

How to Nominate a Nurse?

Anyone can nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award. Patients, peers, physicians and patient family members can nominate a deserving nurse using one of the following methods:

  • Complete the paper form found in literature holders throughout the hospital. You may turn your completed paper forms into one of the DAISY Award ballot boxes, which are located in every patient care area, the Cafeteria and the Main Lobby of the hospital.
  • Or, click here to fill out and submit our online form.

DAISY Award Selection Process

A DAISY Award recipient is selected every month by a designated DAISY award committee, comprised of hospital employees and leaders throughout the departments. Each month the committee will gather the completed online and paper forms to read through each nomination and vote on a winner.

The DAISY Award recipient will receive:

  • A certificate for extraordinary nursing
  • A hand-carved serpentine stone sculpture from Zimbabwe, entitled "A Healer's Touch"
  • A DAISY Award pin
  • A photo placement in a hospital display case
  • A spotlight page on the official DAISY Foundation website
