Weapons Prohibited On Hospital Campus

This policy is part of our commitment to the safety of our patients, visitors, medical staff and employees. Weapons, whether concealed or not, are prohibited in all buildings on the Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) campus and off-site buildings operated by VPH. This includes any object used to intimidate or inflict bodily harm, or may be considered a weapon, such as firearms, blades, knives, brass knuckles, pepper spray, scissors, needles, metal files, tools, wallet chains, or handcuff keys. This applies to all persons entering a VPH operated building with the exception of on-duty law enforcement officers with authority to enforce federal, state or county law. All persons entering may be subject to a security screening for any weapons. When entering the facility you will be screened through a security device. Do not bring any items that may be considered a weapon. Should any weapon be found in the possession of a visitor or patient, we do not have the facilities to store any such items, and you will be asked to return them to your vehicle or dispose of them.

Medical Marijuana and Illegal Substances Prohibited On Hospital Campus

Our goal in developing this policy is to support safe and effective care, and your cooperation in helping us remain compliant with federal law is appreciated. We recognize that state law authorizes marijuana use in limited quantities for recreational use and for patients with certain medical conditions, however, it is illegal to possess marijuana under federal law. To comply with this law, Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) does not permit use of recreational or medical marijuana in any building on the VPH campus and off-site buildings operated by VPH. This policy also does not permit physicians to provide certification to patients for medical marijuana while under their care at our hospital. If a patient or visitor possesses medical marijuana or an illegal substance on VPH premises, hospital Security staff will ask the individual to arrange for its immediate removal. If a patient or visitor is unwilling or unable to remove it, it will be collected and appropriately disposed of in accordance with hospital policy.

Smoke-Free Facility

Valley Presbyterian Hospital is dedicated to creating a healing environment for our patients and visitors. A smoke-free campus environment supports this mission and enables us to provide the highest quality, safest health care possible. Therefore, smoking pipes, cigars, cigarettes, or e-cigarettes of any kind in the hospital or on the hospital campus is prohibited. Do not bring any lighters, matches, vapes or cigarettes, or any items intended to be ignited. They will not be permitted to enter. We do not have the facilities to store any such smoking items, and you will be asked to return them to your vehicle or dispose of them. Please see our Smoking Policy page for more information.
