Heather Van Hoogten grew up just a few miles from Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Northridge, California. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Los Angeles Pierce College in 1999, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Los Angeles Pierce College in 2002, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University in 2014, and lastly her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University in 2015. One of her most significant professional accomplishments was in 2018, she developed a new protocol for nursing management of patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life-threatening complication of diabetes. Since then, our patients have improved more quickly, have had less complications and are able to return home to their families sooner.
