What to Bring & Expect

We are ready to help you quickly and with compassion, 24 hours, every day. Minutes count when coming to the ER and patients are treated based on how serious their illness or injury is. If you have a life-threatening emergency, you will be given priority.

What to Bring With You

We know that it is not always possible during an emergency, but please bring the following items if you can, so we can help you as quickly as possible:

  • Valid state of California ID. You will be asked for your address, telephone number, social security number, and name/address of your employer.
  • List of medications and allergies. Provide the names and daily schedule of the medications you take, along with the length of time you have been taking each. If you have allergies, provide a list of medications, insects, foods or other products that may cause an allergic reaction.
  • Health insurance plan and insurance card. If you have insurance, provide an ID card or your provider's information. Visit our Insurance Options page to learn more about insurance and payments.
  • Immunizations. If you are bringing your child to the ER, you will be asked for a list of their immunizations. If you are an adult, it is helpful if you can verbally provide the immunizations you have had and approximate dates.

What to Do When You Arrive

When you arrive to the emergency department:

  • A Registered Nurse will assess your concern at triage. Let the triage nurse know the reason for your visit and important medical history such as diabetes, asthma, cancer or heart disease. While you are waiting or being treated, alert staff if your condition changes.
  • Remain calm. Even if you or your child is badly injured, try to remain calm with the doctors and nurses caring for you.
