VAN NUYS, Calif. — The Valley Presbyterian Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce the
inaugural members of its Foundation Board of Directors, who are among
the San Fernando Valley’s most prominent and dedicated leaders and
philanthropists.
The Valley Presbyterian Hospital Foundation is a nonprofit entity recently
formed with the purpose of providing funding and resources to Valley Presbyterian
Hospital (VPH) and the community it serves. Specifically, the Foundation’s
Board of Directors will oversee all hospital fundraising initiatives,
including efforts to generate revenue for current and future health care
programs, medical equipment and hospital renovations. The Foundation Board
of Directors will report to the Valley Presbyterian Hospital Board of
Directors.
The following board members have been confirmed for service, effective
November 2015:
David Fleming, Esq. Chairman
David Fleming’s career has revolved around philanthropy. A longtime
supporter of many charitable causes in Los Angeles County, Mr. Fleming
and his wife, Jean, have remained strong city advocates. He recently served
as a board member of the Southern California Metropolitan Water District;
Chaired the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Business
Federation and the Valley Economic Alliance among others. He received
his Bachelor of Science degree from Augustana College in Davenport, Iowa,
and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California,
Los Angeles Law School.
Anthony “Tony” Tartaglia,
Vice Chairman
Regional Affairs Manager of the Southern California Gas Company, Anthony
“Tony” Tartaglia oversees a number of public affairs managers
who serve as civic and community group liaisons. Currently, Mr. Tartaglia
is President of Glendale Community College’s board of trustees,
Chairman of the board of the Foothill Workforce Investment board, and
is a member of Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s and The Valley Economic
Alliance’s boards. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from
California State University, Northridge, and received a Master of Business
Administration degree from Pepperdine University.
Pegi Matsuda,President Pegi Matsuda serves on Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s executive
leadership as Senior Vice President of Community Development. Appointed
to lead the hospital’s efforts in addressing community health needs,
Ms. Matsuda also manages fundraising and heads the hospital’s community
employee volunteer program. Ms. Matsuda received Woman of the Year honors
from the state of California’s 42nd Assembly District and was also awarded the San Fernando Valley Business
Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She obtained her Bachelor
of Science degree from the University of San Francisco and received a
Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University
Merryll McElwain, TreasurerDedicated to helping individuals, families, foundations and other institutions
with wealth management needs, Merryll McElwain’s expertise in finance
wedges a positive impact on the community she serves. Ms. McElwain currently
serves on the Board of Governors and Executive Golf Committee at Braemar
Country Club and is an active member of the Jackie Robinson Foundation,
Human Rights Campaign and Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network.
She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Appalachian State University
and received a Master of Business Administration degree from East Carolina
University.
Keven Steinberg, Esq.
Secretary Keven Steinberg is a partner with Thompson, Coe and O’Meara. His
law practice consists of representing clients in matters involving claims
of employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistle blowing,
and state and federal wages among others. Mr. Steinberg has been recognized
for his volunteerism as a recipient of the George W. Bush Volunteer Service
Award, the California State Assembly Volunteer Service Certificate and
the United States Congress Volunteer Services Certificate. He obtained
a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California and
received a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School.
Nicolas Di Domenico, MD Board certified in Internal Medicine, Nicolas Di Domenico, MD has been
a member of Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s medical staff for over
30 years. Dr. Di Domenico continuously provides high quality, compassionate
medical care to patients in our community. His dedication to medical excellence
and volunteer service at the hospital has earned him an esteemed Pride
in Profession award. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the
Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed an internship and residency
at the University of Pittsburgh.
Jennifer L. Garcia
Jennifer L. Garcia has provided wealth management consultation for individuals,
multi-generational families, trusts, retirement plans, as well as mid-size
businesses for over 20 years. During her time as a financial advisor,
Ms. Garcia has been recognized as one of the top 10% Wells Fargo advisors
in California and has also been recognized as a Premier Advisor for 2015.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from California State
University, Northridge.
Carol Kim Director of Public Affairs at Health Net, Inc., Carol Kim leads the company’s
community and business engagement strategy in the Los Angeles County area.
Ms. Kim also manages the corporate giving program and the Health Net Foundation
with a goal to establish brand identity and community presence. She has
been presented the Community Leadership Award by The Valley Community
Care Consortium along with The San Fernando Valley Business Journal’s
Top 40 Under 40 award. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of California, Irvine, and received a Master of Public Policy
degree from the University of Michigan.
Antonio Pizano President and Executive Director of the San Fernando Valley Small Business
Development Corporation, Antonio Pizano has been supporting small business
growth and expansion for 16 years. Mr. Pizano’s knowledge in providing
financial services to under-banked, underserved and credit-challenged
communities has earned him a spot at the Pacoima Development Credit Union
board. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from California
State University, Northridge.
Diana M. Sanchez An expert in marketing and community and public relations for over 23
years, Diana M. Sanchez is Director of Public and Community Relations
at the Los Angeles World Airports in Van Nuys. She oversees its public
relations programs, special events, promotions and sponsorships. Ms. Sanchez
is Board Chair for the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce
and is a member of the Mid-Valley YMCA Board of Directors, the Encino
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Valley Economic Alliance
Board of Governors. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master
in Public Administration degree from California State University, Long Beach.
Gustavo Valdespino
President & Chief Executive Officer of Valley Presbyterian Hospital,
Gustavo Valdespino is a seasoned leader with more than 25 years of hospital
management experience. Mr. Valdespino’s leadership excellence earned
him an Up and Comer award from Modern Health Magazine, the National Medical
Enterprise’s Circle of Excellence award, the Tenet Healthcare Corporation
Circle of Excellence award and Hispanic Business Magazine’s Leading
Hispanic Excellence award. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree from
the State University of New York, Stony Brook and a Master of Public Health
from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also completed the
Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
Angie Weber Angie Weber is currently supporting Colliers International’s medical
expansion throughout the Los Angeles area. Ms. Weber oversees the leasing
and marketing of nearly one million square feet of medical office spaces
in the greater Los Angeles area. Ms. Weber has a wealth of experience
working with several hospitals in the San Fernando Valley including Valley
Presbyterian Hospital, West Hills Hospital and Providence Health &
Services. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from
the University of Southern California.
