  • VPH Strengthens Business Development Efforts | 2010-07-16

Van Nuys, CA – July 16, 2010 – Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) announced today their plans to strengthen business development efforts by implementing strategies to increase patient and physician satisfaction; recruitment and retention of seasoned primary care physicians and specialists; and expansion of comprehensive services based on community needs.

“The community that we serve is central to all that we do,” said Gustavo Valdespino, President and Chief Executive Officer for VPH. “While Valley Pres has continued to see significant volume growth across multiple service areas, it is equally important that we continue to maintain a community-centered approach to patient care. From our board to our leadership, medical staff and employees, we are all equally committed to providing the highest quality patient care and experience.”

Heading the business development efforts is Julie Reback, Vice President of Business Development, who became part of the Executive Team in February 2010. Ms. Reback is responsible for business development, physician recruitment and relations, marketing and public relations, as well as community outreach. In her role, Ms. Reback ensures that VPH offers high quality services that meet the community's need while also seeking new business opportunities.

This year, Valley Pres launched the grand opening of the Amputation Prevention Center. The center is home to an expanding under served population of people with diabetes. It offers inpatient and outpatient specialized diagnostics and surgery for diabetic patients with limb-threatening conditions.

The hospital also advanced its technology in the Imaging Department with the acquisition of a 64-Slice CT scanner, nuclear medicine camera, radio fluoroscopy room, and two new vascular ultrasound machines. Significant renovations to the operating room suites have also been made to support orthopedic, cardiac, and complex spine surgeries.

“It is the joint partnership that’s allows us to provide a physician-friendly environment,” said Reback. “We do this by keeping the channels of communication open between leadership and our physicians and providing them with the tools, technology and facilities to excel in patient care. Their talent and innovative ideas are a vital component to the care we deliver.”

In collaboration with medical staff, VPH launched the physician portal, which offers physicians real-time access to nursing documentation for their patients including lab work, radiology reports, medication information and more through a single portal. The system improves efficiencies and patient safety by allowing nurses to quickly enter and access patient information with the click of a button. There are also plans for a 75,000 square-foot medical office building that is scheduled to break ground by the end of this year.

Working closely with community partners, the hospital plans to continue community outreach. “We plan on having a strong presence in our community by increasing our involvement in community health fairs and supporting organizations that mutually respond to the needs of the community we serve,” said Reback.

Julie joined VPH from Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, CA, where she served as Vice President of Marketing and Planning. In this role, she was responsible for business development, physician recruiting, medical staff development, marketing, communications, branding, crisis communications, and public, community, and government relations. Prior to that position, Julie served as Chief Development Officer with Tenet Healthcare and as Director of Marketing Services for Cedars-Sinai Health System.
