Gustavo Valdespino, President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Valdespino was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in September 2009.
Mr. Valdespino is a seasoned leader with more than 25 years of hospital management experience. He is widely known and respected in the Southern California hospital industry, having served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Tenet Health Corporation's Southern California Region as well as the CEO of several hospitals. After leaving Tenet in 2003, Mr. Valdespino served as President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles. For the past three years, Mr. Valdespino has served as Chief Executive Officer at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County - a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to providing one on one mentoring for children.
Mr. Valdespino is active in both community and professional organizations and has served on numerous boards, such as the March of Dimes, the American Diabetes Association, and the Latino Business Association. He has also been a board member of the Blue Cross Hospital Relations Committee, the Federation of American Hospitals, the Healthcare Association of Southern California and the California Health Association.
In 1998, Mr. Valdespino received the "Up and Comer" Award from Modern Healthcare Magazine. He also received the National Medical Enterprises Circle of Excellence Award (1992-1993); the Tenet Healthcare Corporation Circle of Excellence Award (1996-1998); and the "Leading Hispanic Executive" Award from Hispanic Business Magazine, in 2001.
Mr. Valdespino holds a Bachelor degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, a Master in Public Health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in Boston.
Robert Allen, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Since June 2007, Robert Allen has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Valley Presbyterian Hospital.
Mr. Allen brings more than 20 years of financial experience to Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Previous to joining Valley Pres, Mr. Allen served as Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer at CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center – a 434-bed acute-care facility formerly owned by Tenet Health Systems. He has also held positions as Chief Financial Officer at several hospitals in the San Fernando Valley, including a long tenure at Verdugo Hills Hospital.
Mr. Allen has been credited in his career with successfully renegotiating contracts and restructuring debt resulting in significant increases in net revenue and improving revenue cycles. As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Mr. Allen has administrative responsibility over all financial operations of the hospital.
Mr. Allen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University.
Jean Rico, Senior Vice President of Quality
Jean Rico was appointed Senior Vice President of Quality for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in February 2010.
Ms. Rico is a seasoned leader who brings over 30 years of health care experience to VPH with a focused expertise in quality improvement. Prior to joining VPH, Ms. Rico served as Vice President of Quality for St. Vincent Medical Center in downtown Los Angeles. Ms. Rico also served as the Regional Quality Director for Tenet Healthcare, where she was responsible for quality and case management for 19 hospitals including California, Nevada and Nebraska.
Ms. Rico leads VPH's efforts for continuous quality improvement. Specifically, she is responsible for risk management, regulatory and accreditation requirements, quality improvement, infection control, case management, social services, patient satisfaction, pharmacy, medical staff office, medical library, continued medical education, and compliance.
Norma Resneder, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development
Norma Resneder was appointed Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in January 2010.
Ms. Resneder is a seasoned leader with more than 25 years experience in labor relations, HR governance, and executive leadership. Prior to joining VPH, Ms. Resneder served as an Organizational Development Consultant for organizations inside and outside health care. Ms. Resneder also served as Vice President of Human Resources and Employee Development for Tenet Healthcare, where she directed and led divisional and regional HR strategic business goal planning.
As Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Organization Development, Ms. Resneder is responsible for ensuring that the HR service delivery model aligns with the hospital's quality and performance objectives. In addition, she will partner with the executive team to help assess and improve the hospital's overall effectiveness.
Ms. Resneder received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Woodbury University, Burbank, California and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Development from Pepperdine University.
Gayathri S. Jith, Vice President of Operations
Gayathri S. Jith was appointed Vice President of Operations for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in March 2010.
Ms. Jith brings more than 10 years of hospital and research experience to VPH. Prior to joining VPH, Ms. Jith served as Administrative Director for Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine & Imaging Services for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) & CHLA Medical Group. In this role, she was responsible for directing operations, finance, information systems, strategic planning and development, human resources, sponsored research, and education and training. Ms. Jith also previously served as Director of Patient Access & Revenue Cycle for St. Vincent Medical Center, Daughters of Charity Health System.
As Vice President of Operations for Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Ms. Jith oversees clinical ancillary services, respiratory care, physical/occupational/speech therapy, dietary, plant operations, parking, security, and environmental services.
Ms. Jith received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, San Diego and a Master of Public Health in Healthcare Management from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Ray Moss, Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Ray Moss was appointed Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in September 2007.
Mr. Moss brings more than 20 years of technology experience to Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Prior to joining VPH, Mr. Moss served as Client Executive for Perot Systems supporting Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Mr. Moss also has held high-level technology management positions at Catholic Healthcare West, Perot Systems Corp., and Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
Mr. Moss leads a dedicated team of Information Technology professionals at Valley Pres who are responsible for phasing in digital imaging and electronic medical records, and installing and maintaining larger capacity servers.
Mr. Moss holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge in addition to certification and experience improving hospital business processes, service delivery, project management and systems implementation.
Julie Reback, Vice President of Business Development
Julie Reback was appointed Vice President of Business Development for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in February 2010.
Ms. Reback brings more than 20 years of experience in business development to VPH. She most recently joins us from Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, CA, where she served as Vice President of Marketing and Planning. In this role, Ms. Reback was responsible for business development, physician recruiting, medical staff development, marketing, communications, branding, crisis communications, and public, community, and government relations. Prior to that position, Ms. Reback served as Chief Development Officer with Tenet Healthcare and as Director of Marketing Services for Cedars-Sinai Health System.
As Vice President of Business Development at VPH, Ms. Reback is responsible for business development, physician recruitment and relations, marketing and public relations, as well as community outreach. In her role, Ms. Reback ensures that VPH offers those high quality services that meet the community's need while also seeking new business opportunities to provide services not offered or easily accessible through other local resources.
Ms. Reback received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan.
Jennifer R. Castaldo, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer
Jennifer R. Castaldo, was appointed Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in March 2010.
Ms. Castaldo brings over 10 years of nursing leadership experience to VPH, where for the past four years she served as Director of Maternal Child Health Services. In this role, she was responsible for the operations of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics (PICU), Labor and Delivery, Post Partum, Antepartum, Newborn Nursery, NICU High Risk and Perinatology Clinics. Her primary responsibility was for service line quality management.
Prior to joining VPH, Ms. Castaldo held several nursing leadership positions with Kaiser Permanente, such as Lead Administrator for Labor & Delivery and Family Centered Care, and Director of Strategic Workforce Planning under Patient Care Services for eleven Southern California Kaiser Hospitals.
In her role as Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Ms. Castaldo is responsible for operations of the critical care areas, acute care services, women's and children's services, Nurse Practitioners, and the nursing office.
Ms. Castaldo received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from University of Wyoming and her Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from Bellevue University, Bellevue, Nebraska.
