Symptoms of heart disease will vary depending on the individual, the type of heart problem and the severity of the condition. To protect yourself, it is important to learn to recognize any symptoms you experience and to be aware of situations that may cause them. If you have been diagnosed with heart disease, be sure to call your doctor if symptoms occur more frequently, become more severe, or if you experience a new symptom.

Heart Attack Signs & Symptoms

If you or someone you are with experiences any of the following symptoms, don't wait more than five minutes to call 911. You can save your life or someone else's by calling 911 immediately.

Chest Pain

Discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back, is a common warning sign of a heart attack. This discomfort can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing or fullness.

Pain or Discomfort in the Upper Body

This can include one or both arms, the stomach, back, neck or jaw.

Other Symptoms

These may include shortness of breath, cold sweat, nausea, lightheadedness or a sense of impending doom.
