Gateway to a Healthy Future
Construction is underway on an $8.4 million project to renovate and expand
Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s Emergency Department to meet the
growing needs of patients and families in the San Fernando Valley.
Over the past few years, our Emergency Department patient volumes have
increased significantly, totaling more than 200 patients on average each
day, or more than double the number of patients that the facility was
built to accommodate.
The project will add 14,505 square feet of space, and increase the patient
bed capacity from 24 to 34 beds. Construction is planned in five phases
and is scheduled to be completed over three years. Throughout construction,
our Emergency Department will remain fully operational to serve the community.
The project will make a difference in the lives of the community’s
most vulnerable patients in the following ways:
- Expand the physical space to allow more efficient service to patients who
visit the Emergency Department.
- Create a new area to efficiently process and treat patients with urgent
but not life-threatening conditions, therefore freeing up more space in
the treatment areas.
- Create a new patient room for assessing patients with potentially infectious
- Create a “child-friendly” treatment room and designated area
for children and their families.
- Create a new room for treating patients with behavioral health symptoms.
- Expand and modernize the patient and family waiting areas.
- Create a new-and-improved entrance to the Emergency Department.
The hospital’s Board of Directors has committed all of the necessary
funds to complete the project. In addition, the Valley Presbyterian Hospital
Foundation is committed to raising $1.5 million, or approximately 20%
of the total budget, through the generosity of the region’s philanthropic
community. We have been actively raising funds to benefit the planned
Emergency Department renovation since 2013. This project represents the
first major capital appeal the hospital has embarked on since funding
the six-story West Patient Tower in 2004.
We are proud to be an organization that makes decisions based on the growing
and changing needs of those we serve. Gifts to the Foundation, in any
amount, will support us as we strive each and every day to serve our community
with high-quality, compassionate care.
